Dean Heiling

Dean has been practicing law since 1971 when he received his doctorate of jurisprudence from Willamette University. He is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Oregon and Washington, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Dean’s professional memberships include the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association in which he has been active for almost three decades, including being on the Board of Directors and OTLA’s professional and public education committees. He is a member of the Washington State Association for Justice, and the American Association of Justice. He served for several years on the Local Professional Responsibility Committee for the Oregon State Bar and has represented the Bar in prosecutions against attorneys for ethics violations.

Dean is an experienced and highly respected trial attorney, having handled cases throughout Oregon and Washington where he is licensed, and in California and Virginia by special permission. He emphasizes personal injury and workers’ compensation law, but frequently branches out into other areas which he has enjoyed in the course of his practice.

James P. Dwyer

Jim Dwyer was born in Eugene, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1984 and graduated from California Western School of Law in San Diego in 1987. Jim’s experience with the law started in 1972 when he went to work at his father’s law firm delivering the mail to the post office and taking documents to the courthouse. Jim grew up going to legal seminars and helping his dad prepare cases.

Jim practiced with his father from 1988 to 1997 in Eugene, Oregon, where his primary focus was on helping people who were injured through no fault of their own. In 1998, Jim and his family moved to Portland so his wife could be closer to her mother. Since then Jim has worked with Dean Heiling and he continues to practice personal injury law and workers’ compensation law.

Jim is licensed to practice law in Oregon, Washington and in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. Jim is a member of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association, the American Association for Justice and the Oregon State Bar. He as also been awarded Volunteer of the Year for the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association.

Jim has been married to his wife Jan for 19 years and has two wonderful teenage daughters. Jim’s interests include cooking, traveling, volunteer work and spending as much time as he can with his family.

Jason Skelton

Jason Skelton was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University in 1998 and graduated with honors from Indiana University School of Law in 2001. One week after graduating from law school he was on his way to Portland, Oregon. He passed the bar exam in the fall of 2001.

For the first years of his legal career he defended insurance companies in personal injury cases and insurance policy disputes. During this time he learned how insurance companies evaluate and defend claims, which helps him advise his clients as he represents them against the insurance companies. He truly enjoys the work he does now because he represents those who really need help

Roy Fernandes

Roy Fernandes grew up in Columbus, Ohio and attended The Ohio State University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Before attending law school, Roy spent five years working for a civil and environmental engineering firm conducting environmental site assessments. In 2002, Roy moved to Portland to attend law school at Lewis and Clark, where he served as an associate editor on the Lewis and Clark Law Review.

For the first seven years of his legal career Roy represented insurance companies and their clients in numerous personal injury matters, including auto accidents, motorcycle crashes, slip and falls, landlord-tenant disputes, dog bites and other cases. He worked closely with insurance adjusters developing, evaluating and defending claims. With his experience and knowledge, he can guide you through the process of dealing with insurance companies and help you achieve the best possible results in your case.

When not at work, Roy enjoys watching Ohio State “Buckeye” football, running, hiking, skiing and spending time with his family, which includes his wife, and two dogs.
